Frequently Asked Questions |
1. Why is it important to have your ball pit cleaned regularly? |
It doesn't take long for a well used ball pool to accumulate a variety of debris and bacteria. A typical clean turns up socks, chewing gum and sweet wrappers. Children dribble, drop things and can have sticky face and hands. |
More seriously, safety pins, plasters, cutlery, cans and occasionally glass can also find their way in as well as invisible risks such as Salmonella, E-coli and other bacteria. Over time and untreated your ball pool can become a hygiene issue which in extreme cases could lead to closure of your facility. |
Cracked, damaged and crushed balls can also pose a safety risk causing trapped fingers, scratching and bruising. We remove these on every clean. |

Here are just a few of the risks and items that have been associated with unclean ball pools:- |
BS 8409 “Soft indoor play areas – Code of practice” States that:- |
a) |
The area should be kept clean at all times. |
b) |
All cleaning materials must be non hazardous. The play equipment supplier should be consulted on suitable cleaning agents. |
c) |
There should be clear procedures in place ( and all staff should be aware of them ) for immediate cleaning and disinfecting in the event of urination, defecation, blood spillage or vomiting. |
2. What does the cleaning process involve? |
After consultation the cleaning is performed by two of our cleaners, using our own ball cleaning machine.
Balls are extracted from the pit into a brush wash system which scrubs the play balls in a child friendly chlorine based sanitisation fluid in order to kill any surface bacteria. |
Broken balls are removed ( and replaced if requested ). The balls are then pumped into net sacks and left to dry. |
Whilst the balls are safely drying, the pit is wiped down, sanitised and vacuumed. |
Finally the balls are replaced back into the pit and a certificate of hygiene is awarded for display. |
3. How long does it take? |
A typical ball pool clean takes around 2 hours to complete (dependant on size). Please contact us to enable a more accurate time scale.

5. How do I calculate the number of balls in my ball pool? |

6. Can you replace the damaged balls? |
We remove any broken, split and squashed balls from your ball pool during the cleaning process. We can replace these if necessary at extra cost with brand new ones. If we don't have the particular replacement colour or size we can order them from you.
